We used to live in a small town on the outskirts of Los Angeles. It was a small, old house, and we didn't have much... but we went to church often, and I think my parents had lots of friends in the community. [She seemed to be thinking hard. Anise was pretty young at the time.] There weren't a lot of kids my age, though, so I didn't make a lot of friends until we moved here a few years ago.

[Even now, Anise didn't have much for close friends, but at least there were people she could talk and have fun with, and places she could go to meet other teens.]
